IMPORTANT ROMAN MARBLE STATUE OF A YOUNG SILVANUS With masses of long curly hair bound with a fillet; wearing a goat skin (nebris) about his neck, filled with fruit, which he holds up with his left hand. His name in Latin literally means “of the woods”. This woodland tutelary deity was a protector of the fields and flocks which are referenced in this example by his goat skin bulging with fruit.
