EARLY CHALCIDIAN TYPE V SILVER MOUNTED BRONZE HELMET

With tall pointed crown, openings for the ears, and curvilinear hinged cheek pieces. Silver appliques with foliate patterns have been placed over the hinges and at the back of the crown.
An exceedingly fine example, choice patina and unique with the silver appliqués.
See: Bottini, et al., Antike Helme, Mainz, 1988, pp. 137-150.
Cf. a nearly identical helmet only without the silver appliques: Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, Museum purchase, 1966, Accession No. 54.2468; and another with slightly different cheek pieces, from Sborishte, Museum of History, Nova Zagora, Bulgaria, Inv. no. 1152; and Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Greece, Pydna excavation, Inv. no.
