GREEK MARBLE HEAD OF A YOUNG GIRL

Her head turned slightly to her right, wearing a crescentic diadem in her curly hair, which is gathered above each ear.
Likely a child votary, it is related to a group of marble figures, the so-called Arktoi or "little bears," at the temple of Artemis at Brauron near Athens. Cf. M. True and K. Hamma, A Passion for Antiquities, Ancient Art from the Collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman, 1994, no. 50, p. 113.
