Egyptian limestone head of Bes EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE HEAD OF BES

The dwarf god of children, games, and laughter, with a modius on his head. He wears a lion head necklace. The eyes are deeply carved and recessed beneath the heavy, furrowed brow.

Ex collection of Hermione Speier, Assistant Librarian of the Vatican, 1940’s-50’s, thence by descent.
